Marriott International has recently announced its plans to expand its luxury resort portfolio in Vietnam with the signing of three new agreements. These developments signify the introduction of two new brands, Ritz-Carlton Reserve and The Luxury Collection, into the country. The new resorts will be located in Hon Thom Island in Phu Quoc and Trang An, a UNESCO World Heritage site in northern Vietnam.
One of the resorts, JW Marriott Trang An Resort & Spa, is expected to open in 2028. It will feature 150 rooms and suites, as well as a selection of 35 one- and two-bedroom villas with private pools. The resort will offer various dining options including two restaurants, a café, lobby lounge, and two bars. Guests can also enjoy leisure facilities such as two pool zones, the signature Spa by JW, a fitness center, kids’ club with an outdoor playground, and a recreational activity center. The hotel will also provide nearly 10,000 square feet of event space, including a spacious ballroom and two meeting rooms.
The second resort, owned by Sun Group, will be a part of The Luxury Collection brand. It is set to open in 2029 on Hon Thom Island. This luxury resort will offer 305 rooms and suites, ranging in size from 538 to 2,691 square feet, including family accommodations. The resort will feature two pool areas, a kids’ club, an activity center, a fitness center, and a spa with seven treatment rooms, whirlpools, saunas, and steam rooms. Diverse dining options will be available at the resort’s six restaurants and bars. Additionally, there will be 18,000 square feet of flexible event space, including a grand ballroom and three smaller function rooms.
The third resort, the Ritz-Carlton Reserve, is anticipated to open in 2028 and will be located on Hon Thom Island. Designed by renowned architect Bill Bensley, it will consist of 40 pool villas, two resort pools, a spa, salon, fitness center, three restaurants, and three bars. The resort will also feature Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment educational program for kids, comprising a two-story activity center and garden. Additionally, the resort will offer a 3,229-square-foot event space suitable for beachfront weddings.
Hon Thom Island is situated off the south coast of Phu Quoc and is accessible via a cable car from the main island. Trang An, on the other hand, is located approximately 56 miles east of Hanoi and is well-known for its stunning natural landscapes, including sugarloaf mountains, rice fields, caves, rivers, and wetlands. It is also renowned for its historical temples and palaces. Trang An is recognized as a dual World Heritage Site, making it a remarkable destination for travelers.
With these new agreements, Marriott is significantly expanding its presence in Vietnam. The company currently operates close to 20 properties across the country, spanning eight brands and 10 destinations. These new additions will bring the total number of Marriott properties in Vietnam to over 50.
In conclusion, Marriott International’s recent signings in Vietnam showcase its commitment to expanding its luxury resort portfolio in the country. The introduction of the Ritz-Carlton Reserve and The Luxury Collection brands to Vietnam, along with the opening of the JW Marriott Trang An Resort & Spa, will provide travelers with even more options for luxury accommodations in this beautiful Southeast Asian nation.
