The upcoming season 32 of the popular reality competition show, Dancing With the Stars, is generating excitement among fans as it features the first-ever active member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as part of its cast. Xochitl Gomez, known for her role as America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, will be stepping onto the dance floor alongside other notable celebrities.
ABC recently revealed the remaining 11 contestants on Good Morning America, adding to the previously announced cast members, including Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix, The Bachelorette’s Charity Lawson, and Jamie Lynn Spears. However, it is Xochitl Gomez’s involvement that has caught the attention of fans and entertainment enthusiasts. She is the first actor from the MCU to compete on Dancing With the Stars while also actively being part of Marvel’s film and TV universe.
While there have been other actors who have participated in the show and later became part of major franchises, like Zendaya who finished second on the show’s 16th season in 2013 before being cast in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Xochitl Gomez’s involvement marks a unique milestone.
The celebrity cast for the upcoming season offers a diverse mix of talent. It includes well-known stars such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and How I Met Your Mother actress Alyson Hannigan, renowned model Tyson Beckford, Too Hot to Handle alum and social media star Harry Jowsey, Grammy winner Jason Mraz, former NFL Most Valuable Player Adrian Peterson, singer and social media star Lele Pons, Oscar winner Mira Sorvino, real estate mogul and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (estranged) husband Mauricio Umansky, Veep Emmy nominee Matt Walsh, and Brady Bunch star Barry Williams.
It’s worth noting that the celebrity dancers and their professional partners who are members of SAG-AFTRA are able to take part in Dancing With the Stars because it falls under a different contract than the one for which union members are currently on strike. The “Network Code” covers game shows, variety shows, and other unscripted series and is valid until June 2024.
Dancing With the Stars is scheduled to premiere on September 26th at 8 p.m. ET/PT on both ABC and Disney+, making its return to the broadcast network after exclusively running on Disney+ last year. Alfonso Ribeiro will host the show, with former DWTS pro Julianne Hough serving as co-host. The judging panel will consist of Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough.
