During a discussion on homelessness in the city, Plante suddenly fell silent for several seconds and then collapsed to the floor. Although conscious when she dropped, Plante was quickly surrounded by her staff, who requested reporters to cease filming. While an ambulance was summoned to City Hall, Plante wasn’t taken to the hospital.
Catherine Cadotte, the mayor’s press attachée, confirmed that Plante was examined by paramedics and was starting to feel better. Later in the day, Cadotte announced that, as a precautionary measure, the mayor would be absent from the Ville-Marie borough council meeting on Tuesday and would scale back her activities in the coming days.
In a statement, Cadotte mentioned, “She will gradually resume her activities and thanks everyone for their understanding and support.”
Plante’s X account posted an update, confirming her health status: “The mayor of Montreal experienced a malaise during a press conference and, fortunately, is out of danger. She will receive all the medical attention she requires and thanks you for your support.”
