Kristoffer Borgli’s surreal comedy film, “Dream Scenario,” featuring Nicolas Cage in the lead role, has been announced as the opening film for this year’s Zurich Film Festival. Borgli, a Norwegian director, gained recognition at Cannes with his debut feature film, “Sick of Myself,” and is now making his English-language debut with “Dream Scenario.” The film follows the story of Paul Matthews (played by Cage), a hapless family man whose life takes an unexpected turn when millions of strangers start seeing him in their dreams. The cast also includes Dylan Baker, Kate Berlant, Michael Cera, Dylan Gelula, and Tim Meadows.
“Dream Scenario” will make its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival as part of the TIFF Platform competition program. The film will be released by A24 domestically, marking the first time the studio behind “Everything Everywhere All at Once” will have an opening night film at the Zurich Film Festival.
However, due to the ongoing dual writers and actors strike, the cast of “Dream Scenario” is not expected to attend the Zurich premiere. However, director Borgli will be present at the event, along with the president of the Swiss Federal Council, Alain Berset, and Zurich City mayor, Corine Mauch.
The Zurich Film Festival will feature several highlights from this year’s festival season. Todd Haynes’ melodrama, “May December,” starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, will be screened at the festival. Additionally, the psychological thriller “Eileen,” featuring Anne Hathaway and Thomasin McKenzie, directed by William Oldroyd, and Tran Anh Hung’s foodie French romance film, “The Pot-Au-Feu,” will also be showcased. “Eileen” received critical acclaim at Sundance, while both “May December” and “The Pot-Au-Feu” created buzz at Cannes.
Another film making its way to Zurich is “Nyad,” which tells the true story of Diana Nyad, a long-distance swimmer who becomes obsessed with completing a 110-mile swim from Cuba to Florida at the age of 60. Annette Bening portrays Nyad, while Jodie Foster plays her friend and coach, Bonnie Stoll. The film, directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, will have a gala premiere at the Zurich Film Festival.
With an exciting lineup of films and the opening of “Dream Scenario” featuring Nicolas Cage, this year’s Zurich Film Festival is set to be a captivating event for movie enthusiasts and industry professionals.
