On October 20, 2023, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Prospect Police Officers David Terni and Jonathan Slavin were dispatched to 20 Merriman Lane, Prospect, in response to a report of a possible disturbance. A concerned neighbor had heard suspicious noises coming from the house and believed that some sort of disturbance was taking place inside. Upon arrival, Officer Slavin approached the rear of the house while Officer Terni approached the front. It was observed that one of the front windows had been dislodged, creating an opening into the house.
When Officer Terni inquired about the dislodged window, the woman inside responded by saying, “Mike did it.” At that moment, a man identified as 48-year-old Michael Strenk, emerged and opened a kitchen drawer, pulling out a knife. Officer Terni immediately instructed Strenk to drop the knife. Ignoring the officer’s command, Strenk threw the knife in the direction of Officer Terni.
