The upcoming next generation Audi Q3 compact crossover has been recently spotted, and based on its minimal camouflage and production-ready lights, it is evident that the vehicle is in its final stages of development. The current second-generation Q3 was launched in 2018 as a 2019 model, and the redesigned third-generation model is expected to make its debut in late 2025 or early 2026, and subsequently arrive in the U.S. as a 2025 or possibly 2026 model.
The new Q3 maintains similar proportions to the current model, which is consistent with the fact that both vehicles will share the same platform, Volkswagen Group’s MQB. However, the new Q3 will benefit from an updated version of the platform known as MQB Evo.
In terms of design, the new Q3 showcases a distinctive appearance. It features split headlights with thin daytime running lights, a design element that is anticipated to be adopted by the upcoming Q6 E-Tron electric compact crossover. The grille mesh is also a new design for Audi, adding to the unique styling of the new Q3. At the rear, a new light strip serves as a fresh motif for this generation of the Q3.
The prototype of the new Q3 spotted also reveals that it will come equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The charging port is visibly located on the driver’s side front fender. While Audi has not provided any specifics about additional powertrain options, there may also be a mild-hybrid powertrain offered in the lineup.
Enthusiasts can look forward to an RS Q3 variant, which is expected to boast a powerful 2.5-liter turbo-5 engine. This model will likely serve as a farewell to internal-combustion engines, as Audi has announced that beyond 2026, it will no longer introduce cars with such engines.
Additionally, Audi is expected to introduce a more coupe-like version of the Q3, known as the Q3 Sportback. However, it remains uncertain whether Audi will offer this model in the U.S., as it did not release the current Q3 Sportback in the American market.
In markets outside of the U.S., the new Q3 will serve as a basis for related models under fellow Volkswagen Group brands such as Cupra, Skoda, and Volkswagen. The first of these models will be the Cupra Terramar, which was previewed by a concept of the same name last year. It is interesting to see how the Q3’s success will transcend into these related models and further expand the reach and impact of the Q3 platform.
The next-generation Audi Q3 is shaping up to be an exciting addition to Audi’s lineup, with its updated platform, modern design elements, and advanced powertrain options. With its expected arrival in the U.S. in 2025 or 2026, Audi enthusiasts will have something to look forward to as they witness the evolution of this popular compact crossover.
