Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón recently announced the charges filed against Matthew Scott Reyes for the rape and robbery of two women in the Koreatown area. These abhorrent acts are deeply disturbing and reprehensible crimes that will not be tolerated in our community, according to District Attorney Gascón. He also believes that there may be more victims who have been targeted and assaulted by Reyes and encourages them to come forward.
Reyes is facing multiple charges, including two counts of forcible oral copulation, two counts of forcible rape, and two counts of second-degree robbery. However, Reyes has pled not guilty to all counts. The first incident took place on September 28 when the victim encountered Reyes near Western Avenue and 1st Street. After entering Reyes’ vehicle, he pulled out a gun and threatened to kill her if she didn’t comply with his demands. Reyes then proceeded to sexually assault and rob her before she managed to escape.
On October 3, a second victim came forward and revealed that she was approached by Reyes about a month prior near Western Avenue and 2nd Street. Following a similar pattern, Reyes forced her into his car, drove to a secluded area, pointed a gun at her, and sexually assaulted and robbed her.
Reyes is currently being held on a bail set at $1,500,000.

Additionally, they are working diligently to ensure that Reyes is held accountable for his alleged heinous actions.
Sexual assault is a serious crime that often goes unreported due to survivors’ fears of retaliation or not being believed. However, it is crucial for victims to know that there are resources available to support them throughout the legal process. The District Attorney’s Office is dedicated to creating a safe environment for survivors to come forward and seek justice.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of community support and dedication to eradicating sexual violence. It is essential for law enforcement agencies, victim advocacy organizations, and the public to work together to prevent such atrocities from occurring. Awareness campaigns, educational programs, and increased police presence can play an integral role in deterring potential offenders and providing avenues for support to survivors.
