NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe has recently announced that he is moving his popular podcast, Club Shay Shay, to The Volume, a digital network and podcasting hub founded by sports host Colin Cowherd. As part of the partnership, Sharpe’s company, Shay Shay Media, will also collaborate with The Volume to produce new programming. This decision comes after Sharpe’s departure from Undisputed, the Fox Sports debate show, in June, which had prompted him to put his podcast back on the market.
Expressing his excitement about the partnership, Sharpe stated, “I’m excited to partner with my friend Colin Cowherd and the creative team at The Volume. The Volume has built an amazing platform that is the right fit to help Shay Media reach the next level. That includes developing new shows and bringing on new talent under the Shay Media brand.”
For the past seven years, Sharpe had been the co-host of the talk show Undisputed alongside Skip Bayless. He also hosted his podcast, Club Shay Shay, which currently boasts close to 1.25 million YouTube subscribers and receives over 15 million views per month. On June 13, Sharpe announced his departure from Undisputed.
The Volume’s executives began meeting with Sharpe shortly after his exit from Undisputed and engaged in several weeks of discussions with him, even amidst other competitive offers. Ultimately, a multi-year deal was struck between The Volume and Sharpe, which includes a revenue sharing agreement for his multi-million dollar podcast and future shows.
Club Shay Shay regularly features interviews with athletes and celebrities, including recent guests such as Dwyane Wade, Steve Harvey, and Deion Sanders. The podcast has gained significant popularity and engagement, making it an attractive addition to The Volume’s roster.
In addition to his podcasting endeavors, Sharpe has also been rumored to potentially join ESPN’s First Take. According to the New York Post, he could appear on the show on Mondays and Tuesdays during the football season, while still continuing his partnership with The Volume.
Founded in 2021, The Volume is a podcast network that hosts over a dozen shows featuring prominent sports personalities, including Colin Cowherd, Draymond Green, Richard Sherman, and Daniel Cormier. The network also produces video content across various social media channels. In 2022, The Volume’s podcasts generated a remarkable 330 million downloads.
Commenting on the partnership with Sharpe, Colin Cowherd expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “There are very few people in sports media that cut through like Shannon Sharpe. We are excited to partner with him and his team at Shay Media and co-produce original content with them.”
The collaboration between Shannon Sharpe and The Volume represents a significant step forward for both parties. Sharpe gains access to a strong platform that can further elevate his podcast’s reach and impact, while The Volume can capitalize on Sharpe’s immense popularity and add his expertise as a sports media figure to their programming lineup. This partnership not only benefits the two entities involved but also offers an enhanced podcast experience for fans and listeners.
