Infiniti has been teasing the release of an electric vehicle (EV) for quite some time, and it seems that the wait is finally over. The automaker recently unveiled the Vision Qe concept, which serves as a preview for its first-ever EV that will be available for purchase. Additionally, a crossover counterpart known as the Vision QXe concept is also in the works.
The Vision Qe concept showcases the latest iteration of Infiniti’s Artistry in Motion design language. It features unique design elements that may set apart future Infiniti electric models. For instance, the concept has a grille that extends down into the front fascia, as well as light bars that span the width of the vehicle at the front and rear. These light bars utilize what Infiniti refers to as “digital piano key” lighting, which will flash a sequence to welcome the driver as they approach the vehicle.
While specifics about the Vision Qe’s powertrain have not been disclosed, the concept’s debut generates anticipation for what lies underneath the hood. Enthusiasts and customers alike are eager to learn more about the EV’s performance and range capabilities.
Regarding the production timeline, Infiniti has not yet revealed when the Vision Qe concept will hit the showroom floor. However, information shared at a dealer meeting last summer suggests that sales may begin as early as 2026. This EV hatch is expected to fill the void left by the departure of the mid-size Q70 sedan, which was discontinued after 2019. On the other hand, the crossover counterpart is scheduled to arrive in 2027, according to the same dealer meeting.
Both EVs were initially teased in 2022 when Infiniti officially confirmed their production. The automaker plans to manufacture these models at Nissan’s plant in Canton, Mississippi, indicating a collaborative effort between Nissan and Infiniti. As part of this partnership, related Nissan models will also be produced at the same facility.
Infiniti has a long-standing commitment to developing EVs, with their first promise dating back to 2009. In 2012, they provided a glimpse of their plans with the unveiling of the LE concept, a compact sedan based on the platform of the original Nissan Leaf. However, they later decided to forego the LE and shifted their focus towards developing extended-range EVs. Eventually, Infiniti took the leap and fully embraced conventional battery-electric EVs.
The Vision Qe made its debut at an event in Tokyo, where Infiniti revealed three more upcoming models. These include a redesigned Q80, a coupe-like crossover called the QX65, and the electric crossover that will be previewed by the Vision QXe concept.
With the introduction of the Vision Qe concept, Infiniti has taken a significant step towards its electrification goals. Car enthusiasts and industry analysts are eager to witness the final production version and experience the performance and features that Infiniti’s first EV has to offer. As the automotive industry continues to shift towards electric mobility, Infiniti’s entrance into the EV market is both timely and exciting. Customers can look forward to a new era of electrified luxury vehicles from the renowned automaker.
