Explora I, the first ship of the new Explora Journeys cruise line, recently arrived in New York City for its naming ceremony. The event was led by Dr. Sylvia Earle, a renowned marine biologist and oceanographer, and attended by executives from Explora Journeys and its parent company, MSC Group, as well as travel advisors, stakeholders, network executives, and media.
The ship’s design aims to create a luxurious hotel-like atmosphere, with minimal nautical themes or colors. The central Lobby Bar on Deck 4 resembles a high-end hotel lounge, complete with boutiques offering luxury brands like Rolex, Piaget, and Save the Duck. The ship also features three Steinway pianos, located in different areas, adding to the elegant and sophisticated ambiance.
Although the ship aims to provide a hotel-like experience, it doesn’t compromise on outdoor spaces. Explora I offers various outdoor areas, including the Astern Pool & Bar, Atoll Pool & Bar, and Decks 12 and 14. These spaces provide opportunities for relaxation, fitness activities, and enjoying the views of the ocean. One notable feature is The Conservatory on Deck 11, with a retractable glass ceiling that can be opened or closed based on the weather conditions.
When it comes to dining, Explora I offers several included options. Marble & Co. Grill, a New York-styled steakhouse, offers a fine dining experience, while Sakura serves Pan-Asian cuisine. The Mediterranean Yacht Club specializes in Mediterranean-inspired dishes, and Fil Rouge offers French-inspired international cuisine. The Emporium Marketplace features numerous live cooking stations, offering a wide range of cuisines. Explora I also has 24-hour room service, ensuring that guests can satisfy their cravings at any time.
For an additional fee, guests can dine at Anthology, where Michelin-starred chefs create rotating menus. The ship also features a Cooking School that offers classes in various cuisines. The Journeys Lounge is the primary venue for nightly entertainment, hosting musicians and DJs. The Astern Lounge provides a more intimate setting for entertainment and speakers.
To maintain guests’ well-being, the ship provides a spa with nine treatment rooms, a hair and nail salon, hydrotherapy plunge pool, salt cave, steam room, Finnish sauna, and more. Fitness enthusiasts can utilize the Fitness Center, Fitness Studio, Open Air Fitness space, running track, and sports court.
Other public spaces on the ship include the Explora Lounge, where guests can enjoy Afternoon Tea and light meals while admiring the panoramic views. The outdoor pools, such as the Astern Pool & Bar and Atoll Pool & Bar, offer opportunities for swimming and relaxation.
Overall, Explora I offers a blend of luxury, comfort, and entertainment, providing an immersive experience for travelers who prefer a sophisticated and hotel-like atmosphere. With its elegant design, diverse dining options, and wellness facilities, the ship promises a memorable journey for its guests.
