Solo Stove, a well-known brand in the fire pit industry, has expanded its product offering to include pizza ovens. The company has recently introduced its second pizza oven model called the Pi Prime, which is a gas-only version and comes at a more affordable price point of $349.
The Pi Prime pizza oven is designed with a “demi-dome” construction and a round shape, similar to Solo Stove’s fire pits. It features a spacious panoramic opening in the front, allowing for easy maneuvering of pizzas and other foods inside the cooking chamber. The oven comes with a two-piece stone that can be easily removed for cleaning or transport. However, the key difference in the Pi Prime is the built-in gas burner, making it a self-contained unit that only requires a propane tank. It also has a flame control knob at the front for ignition and a temperature adjustment dial. Unlike the original Pi model, the Pi Prime has a black base instead of an all-stainless-steel construction.
According to Solo Stove, the Pi Prime has a “workable baseline” temperature for baking pizzas, indicated by two orange markings on the front-mounted knob. This baseline temperature is around 700 degrees Fahrenheit and allows for cooking a pizza in under 90 seconds. However, the oven is capable of reaching temperatures over 950 degrees, and users can adjust the temperature lower than 700 if needed. Although Solo Stove does not specify the full temperature range, the orange markings indicate that it extends beyond halfway on the dial.
To complement the Pi and Pi Prime pizza ovens, Solo Stove offers a range of accessories scheduled to be released at the end of the month. These accessories include a cover specifically designed for the Pi Prime, a cast iron grill pan, a regular cast iron pan, a dough docker, a wire cleaning brush, a rocker pizza cutter, and a prep board with built-in toppings containers. Additionally, Solo Stove already sells a cart for its pizza ovens called the Pi Stand, which features side shelves, a place to rest the peel under the oven, and a propane tank holder. The cart is equipped with four casters, making the oven easily movable.
Comparing the Pi Prime to similar gas-only pizza ovens in the market, such as Ooni’s Koda 12, Solo Stove offers a more affordable option at $349. The company has significantly lowered the price of its multi-fuel Pi model, which now sells for $400. Customers can also purchase a propane burner separately for an additional $100 if bought together with the oven, or $130 if purchased separately. Ooni’s cheapest multi-fuel option, the Karu 12G, comes at $429, and the optional gas burner costs an additional $99. Another popular gas-only model is Gozney’s Roccbox, priced at $499, with an additional $100 cost for the wood burner attachment.
The Pi Prime pizza oven will be available for purchase on Solo Stove’s website starting Friday, August 18th.
