Apple TV+’s series, “Hijack,” made its way into the streaming rankings for the week of July 31-August 6, securing its spot as the platform’s second series to enter the rankings. However, “Suits” remains dominant in the overall rankings, and “The Lincoln Lawyer” reclaimed its position after the release of new episodes.
According to Nielsen, “Hijack” recorded 357 million minutes of viewing time during the week its finale premiered, earning it the eighth spot among original series. This makes it the first Apple TV+ show, apart from “Ted Lasso,” to make the weekly top 10 list. While several movies on the service have made the film-specific top 10 rankings, “Hijack” made a significant impact in the original series category.
On the other hand, “Suits” has maintained impressive numbers, recording more than 3 billion minutes of watch time for the sixth consecutive week. With 3.24 billion minutes, the legal drama continues to claim the top spot in the overall rankings by a wide margin. In the seven weeks since its inclusion in the rankings, “Suits” has accumulated a total of 23.54 billion minutes of viewing, which is equivalent to approximately 4.18 million complete viewings of the nine-season, 134-episode series (assuming an average running time of 42 minutes per episode).
“The Lincoln Lawyer” released the second half of its second season on August 3 and reclaimed the top spot among original series with 1.7 billion viewing minutes on Netflix. Additionally, “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” made a comeback to the rankings, gathering 362 million minutes of viewing for the week of its musical episode, titled “Subspace Rhapsody.” Peacock’s “Twisted Metal” also made its debut, securing the tenth spot among original series with 326 million viewing minutes.
Two feature films also had successful streaming premiere weeks. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” accumulated 1.63 billion minutes on Disney+, while “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” garnered 717 million minutes on Peacock.
It is important to note that Nielsen’s streaming ratings only consider viewing on TV sets and do not include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. Additionally, these ratings solely reflect audiences in the United States and do not measure viewership in other countries.
