Only Murders in the Building, the popular comedy series, had its third-season premiere and achieved its highest viewership yet. The show, which premiered on Hulu on August 8, garnered 719 million minutes of watch time for the week of August 7-13. This marked a 24 percent increase from its previous best of 578 million minutes during the week of its season two finale in August 2022. Among original series, Only Murders in the Building ranked third and placed ninth overall in Nielsen’s rankings.
Another show that continued to dominate the streaming charts was Suits. The legal drama accumulated an impressive 3.01 billion minutes of viewing on both Netflix and Peacock. This accomplishment set a record in Nielsen’s weekly charts as the first show to record 3 billion or more minutes in seven consecutive weeks. Previous hits such as Stranger Things and Wednesday had higher peaks in viewership, but they weren’t able to sustain over 3 billion minutes for more than three weeks in a row.
On Netflix, the debut of the opioid-crisis drama Painkiller attracted significant attention, amassing 990 million minutes of viewing. Meanwhile, The Lincoln Lawyer maintained its position as the top original series for the second week in a row with 1.42 billion minutes watched. Netflix also had a successful movie premiere with Heart of Stone, starring Gal Gadot, which garnered 966 million minutes of watch time over its first three days.
The Summer I Turned Pretty, available on Prime Video, maintained its presence in the streaming charts for the fifth consecutive week with 457 million minutes viewed.
It’s important to note that Nielsen’s streaming ratings only cover viewing on TV sets and do not include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. Additionally, the ratings reflect U.S. audiences and do not include viewership from other countries.
