The highly anticipated musical adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s literary classic and Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic 1983 film “The Outsiders” is set to make its debut on Broadway next spring. Directed by Danya Taymor, the show will officially open on April 11, 2024, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. Previews will begin on March 16. The musical features a book by Adam Rapp, with Justin Levine contributing to the music and lyrics alongside Jamestown Revival’s Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance. In an exciting development, award-winning actress, director, and producer Angelina Jolie has joined the musical’s production team. Alongside The Araca Group, American Zoetrope, Olympus Theatricals, Sue Gilad, and Larry Rogowsky, Jolie brings her talent and expertise to the project. Jolie expressed her enthusiasm for the theater, stating that her first love as a performer was in the theater. She had not found a way back until now and is grateful for the opportunity to contribute and learn from the amazing team she has been working with since her daughter brought her to see the show at La Jolla Playhouse.
The musical initially made its world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse in March. Christopher Ashley served as the artistic director, with Debby Buchholz as the managing director. The production received positive reviews, creating excitement for its Broadway debut.
