Toyota has provided a glimpse of its upcoming hybrid mid-size SUV with all-wheel drive that is set to be released in the U.S. The automaker released a teaser photo which suggests that the vehicle in question is the production version of the Crown Estate concept showcased in 2022.
The 2023 Crown sedan was introduced by Toyota last year in the U.S. as a replacement for the Avalon. However, this is just one of the four body styles that Toyota has planned for the Crown nameplate. The second body style is the Crown Sport crossover, which was recently launched in Japan. Toyota also has plans for a low-slung sedan and a more traditional SUV. The teaser photo reveals a taillight design that matches the one used on the Crown Estate concept. Additionally, the visible “C” badge on the vehicle is stylized in a manner similar to the “C” that forms the Crown name on the back of the 2023 Crown.
In terms of powertrains, it is likely that the new SUV will share them with the 2023 Crown. The high-riding sedan currently offers two hybrid options, both equipped with through-the-road all-wheel drive systems where an electric motor powers the rear axle. The standard powertrain features a 2.5-liter inline-4 as the internal-combustion component, while a more powerful setup uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-4. These powertrains deliver 236 and 340 horsepower, respectively.
