A rare Porsche Carrera GTZ is set to hit the auction block on the car trading platform, Carhuna. This particular model is one of just six examples ever made, including the original prototype. Bidding for this V-10 supercar will open on July 14 and is expected to last for ten days. The estimated price range for the vehicle is between 1.5 million and 1.7 million British pounds, which equates to roughly $1.9 million and $2.2 million.
Currently located in the UK at dealership DK Engineering, this Porsche Carrera GTZ is based on a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT that was originally delivered to a customer in the United States. Throughout its history, the car has had three previous owners. However, as is often the case with exotic cars, it has been very lightly driven, with only 9,350 miles recorded on the odometer.
The Carrera GTZ was born out of a collaboration between a Carrera GT owner from Switzerland and Italian coachbuilder Zagato in 2013. The Swiss owner approached Zagato with a request to replace the standard rear deck of the Carrera GT, with its distinctive mesh-lined humps, with a more conservative design that aligned with the roof. Zagato ended up redesigning most of the body, although the changes are more subtle compared to other recent Zagato creations. The aim was to create a more flowing rear reminiscent of Zagato’s work on the classic Porsche 356.
In addition to the unique rear design, five other Carrera GT owners also opted for Zagato’s conversion. The cost of this modification was reported to be equivalent to the price of a Carrera GT at that time. However, the owner who requested the metallic green finish for this particular car also chose to have the interior receive the Zagato treatment, something that none of the other owners decided to do.
Despite the modifications to its appearance, no changes were made to the powertrain. The car is still equipped with a 5.7-liter V-10 engine that produces an impressive 603 horsepower. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. This combination enables the car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of around 205 mph.
Overall, the Porsche Carrera GTZ is a rare and highly unique vehicle. With its limited production run and one-of-a-kind design, it is sure to attract the attention of car enthusiasts and collectors alike. The auction on Carhuna presents a unique opportunity for someone to own a piece of automotive history. Whether it will be sold within the estimated price range of 1.5 million to 1.7 million British pounds or surpasses it is yet to be seen. Regardless, the lucky buyer will be acquiring not just a luxury sports car, but a true work of art on wheels.
