SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. (SCDAO / Press Release) – In a tragic and horrifying case, a 45-year-old man from South Huntington, New York, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to Rape in the First Degree. The defendant, who is the father of the victim, sexually assaulted his 21-year-old daughter in February 2022.
District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney expressed his outrage at the defendant’s actions and commended the victim for her courage in reporting the crime. He stated, “This defendant’s unfathomable actions have landed him in prison. Thankfully, the victim courageously reported what her father had done, so that he could be held accountable for his crime. Hopefully, this sentence will give her the peace of mind knowing that he will be in prison, where he can no longer prey on her.”
According to court documents and the defendant’s admissions during his guilty plea allocution, the victim was spending time with her father when he suggested that she spend the night at his house. Later, he gave her an Advil PM so that she could rest. However, while the victim was sleeping, she was awakened by her father rubbing her back and buttocks. He then pinned her arms down and forcefully raped her.
After the assault, the victim managed to escape from her father’s house and sought help from a nearby family member. The police were alerted, and the defendant was subsequently arrested.
On May 31, 2023, the defendant pleaded guilty before County Court Judge Karen M. Wilutis to Rape in the First Degree, a Class B violent felony. He was sentenced on July 21, 2023, to 10 years in prison, followed by 20 years of post-release supervision.
