The US government has announced its intention to sell 41,490 bitcoin seized from Silk Road marketplace hacker James Zhong. In a court filing regarding Zhong’s sentencing, officials said they plan to sell the currency in multiple tranches over the course of the year. The announcement follows a sale of 9,861 bitcoin seized in a separate dark web probe earlier this month for around $215m on cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. The US government is thought to be the largest owner of bitcoin in the world, with holdings of around 205,515 BTC.
