Valve’s new Steam Deck OLED has caused quite a frenzy since it was made available for purchase at 1PM ET on Thursday. However, many eager customers encountered issues while trying to complete their purchase. Even some Verge staffers experienced the frustration of having the device stuck in their cart without being able to successfully check out.
The frustration and difficulty in purchasing the Steam Deck OLED persisted for more than two hours after the orders went live. However, as of the time of this writing, it seems that the situation is finally starting to calm down. One Verge employee, who had been struggling to secure one of the new models, was finally able to complete the checkout process. Additionally, there have been numerous reports of successful purchases on the Steam Deck subreddit, indicating that the issues are slowly being resolved.
Amidst the chaos, Valve acknowledged the problems with the checkout process within minutes of the orders opening up. The company assured customers that they were actively working to address the issues. Approximately two hours after the initial opening of orders, Valve announced that they believed they had identified and resolved the issues causing instability in the cart and checkout on Steam.
As the situation continued to unfold, an update from Valve on November 16th at 3:34PM ET indicated that the company believes it has fixed the issues that were causing the disruptions in the purchasing process.
Despite the initial chaos and frustration, it appears that the issues surrounding the checkout process for the Steam Deck OLED are being resolved. Customers can still find solace in the fact that Valve is actively working to ensure a smooth purchasing experience for all those interested in obtaining the highly anticipated gaming device.
