Viking, the renowned cruise line, has recently made an exciting announcement regarding the expansion of its river fleet in Southeast Asia with the introduction of the new Viking Tonle. This 80-guest vessel, designed specifically for the Mekong River, will join its identical sister ship, the Viking Saigon, which made its debut in 2022. The Viking Tonle is scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage in October 2025, sailing between Kampong Cham, Cambodia and Mỹ Tho, Vietnam as part of Viking’s 15-day “Magnificent Mekong” itinerary. Due to the high demand for Mekong River voyages, Viking has added extra sailing dates in 2025 and has opened up the entire 2026 season for booking.
The Viking Tonle is designed to accommodate 80 guests in 40 outside staterooms. The vessel embodies the Scandinavian design aesthetic for which Viking is well-known and prides itself on offering a luxurious and comfortable experience for its passengers. All staterooms feature hotel-style beds and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with a Veranda or French Balcony, allowing guests to soak in the picturesque views of the Mekong River. Additionally, the three-deck Viking Tonle features a spa and fitness center, a pool, and an open-air Sky Bar on the upper deck for guests to relax and unwind while enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
The “Magnificent Mekong” itinerary spans over 15 days and offers an immersive exploration of Vietnam and Cambodia through 16 guided tours. The itinerary includes hotel stays in Hanoi, Siem Reap, and Ho Chi Minh City, bookending an eight-day Mekong River voyage. Throughout this journey, guests will have the opportunity to visit the Old Quarter of Hanoi, attend a performance by Apsara dancers, explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat, discover the ancient ruins embraced by jungle vines at Ta Prohm, and partake in local cuisine experiences. Along the river voyage, guests can also explore silk towns, fishing villages, monasteries, and floating markets, providing a comprehensive and authentic cultural experience.
