The companies have released a trailer for their latest co-production, an eight-part gangster and extreme sports drama called “Spinners.” Set in Cape Town, South Africa, “Spinners” is the first African show to be featured in the main competition at CanneSeries.
The series follows Ethan, a 17-year-old driver working for a gang, who is trying to support his younger brother. He discovers a possible way out of gang life through spinning, an extreme motorsport that features drivers performing jaw-dropping daredevil stunts. However, Ethan’s plans are jeopardized by a looming gang war.
The cast of “Spinners” includes Cantona James and Chelsea Thomas in leading roles, along with Elton Landrew, Dillon Windvogel, Brendon Daniels, Dann Jaques Mouton, David Isaacs, and Katlego Lebogang. The series has already received accolades, with James winning the best performance honor at the inaugural Dakar Series event, where “Spinners” also won awards for best TV series and best editing.
The first episode of “Spinners” will be showcased at the opening night of MIP Africa on September 4, giving the African film industry a chance to preview the highly anticipated series. It will also be available on Canal+ in Africa starting on November 13.
“Spinners” is directed by Jaco Bouwer and co-created by producer Joachim Landau and showrunner Benjamin Hoffman. Ramadan Suleman from Natives at Large serves as the local co-production company. DJ Ready D is the music supervisor and also composed tracks for the series. StudioCanal is handling international sales for the show.
