The late Luther Vandross’ legacy continues to live on through a special collaboration with Waterford Crystal. The iconic crystal brand has partnered with Vandross’ estate to create a collection of crystal glasses, decanters, and cocktail shakers that pay homage to the singer’s rich musical career and his debut single, “Never Too Much,” released in 1981.
The Luther Vandross x Waterford Crystal Collection is now available for purchase at Bloomingdales and on the Waterford website. The collection features the “Luther 81” line of crystal glasses, including champagne coupes and martini glasses. Each piece is delicately etched with the collection’s name and Vandross’ signature on the base, adding a personal touch to these luxurious objects.
Drawing inspiration from Vandross’ hit single, the crystal glasses also feature a special karo cut that represents lyrics from the chorus, which read “Oh, my love, a thousand kisses from you is never too much.” These “kiss cuts” add an extra layer of meaning and elegance to the collection, making each piece unique and memorable.
In addition to the crystal glasses, Waterford is also releasing a limited-edition Luther 81 X capsule, which includes a stunning hand-carved decanter. The decanter features karo kisses across the clear polished crystal, paying tribute to Vandross’ song. Only 81 of these decanters have been produced as a nod to the year Vandross released his debut single.
The Luther 81 X collection also includes a limited-edition double old fashioned rocks glass set, sold as a pair. Just like the decanters, only 81 pairs of these crystal glasses were released, making them a rare and exclusive addition to any collection. Each pair retails for $480 and comes presented in a collectible box adorned with a black and white image of Vandross and his signature.
Waterford describes this collaboration as an “emotive tribute” to Vandross’ timeless legacy and invites everyone to join the celebration. The collaboration is officially licensed by Vandross’ estate, Primary Wave Music publishers, and Waterford.
David Gottlieb, manager of the Luther Vandross Estate, comments on the collection, stating, “This unique collection honors Luther Vandross’ timeless legacy, beautifully capturing the spirit of his music in each crystal piece. It’s more than just barware — it’s a testament to Luther’s profound influence on music and his ever-present impact.”
Fans of Vandross and collectors of fine crystal can now shop the Luther Vandross x Waterford Crystal Collection online at Bloomingdales and on the Waterford website. This collaboration allows fans to own a piece of the legendary singer’s musical history and cherish it for years to come.
