DeWanda Wise, known for her roles in Jurassic Park: Dominion and The Harder They Fall, has signed on to star in and executive produce the upcoming horror thriller Imaginary for Blumhouse Productions and Lionsgate. Set for release on March 8, 2024, the film follows Jessica (played by DeWanda Wise) as she moves back into her childhood home with her family. Her youngest stepdaughter, Alice, becomes unnervingly attached to a stuffed bear named Chauncey, leading to increasingly sinister behavior that prompts Jessica to intervene and uncover the true nature of Chauncey.
Director Jeff Wadlow, who was attached to the project prior to the strike, expressed his excitement about working with DeWanda Wise, stating, “DeWanda has been more than a star on this movie — she has been a full creative partner. So much of horror grows out of our most basic fears from childhood, and DeWanda taps into all of that. You know that old saying that the audience’s imagination is scarier than any movie? We’re going to put that to the test.”
In addition to her role in Imaginary, DeWanda Wise is set to appear in the Starz series adaptation of Lisa Taddeo’s Three Women, alongside Shailene Woodley and Betty Gilpin, as well as in the feature film Poolman, the directorial debut of Chris Pine. She will also star in the supernatural thriller Killing Faith. With a diverse range of upcoming projects, Wise continues to make her mark in the entertainment industry.
The script for Imaginary was co-written by Jeff Wadlow, Greg Erb, and Jason Oremland. Wadlow and Jason Blum produced the film, with DeWanda Wise stepping into the role of executive producer alongside Ryan Turek. Her involvement in the creative process demonstrates her commitment to bringing compelling and unique storytelling to the screen.
DeWanda Wise is represented by CAA, M88, and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein Lezcano Bobb & Dang, showcasing the support and belief in her talent from respected industry professionals.
As the release date for Imaginary draws closer, fans can anticipate a chilling and intense performance from DeWanda Wise in a film that delves into the depths of childhood fears and the power of imagination to terrify. With a strong team of creatives and talent behind the project, Imaginary is poised to deliver a fresh and gripping addition to the horror genre, solidifying DeWanda Wise as a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood.
