Kel Mitchell made a public appearance at the premiere of Good Burger 2 in New York just days after experiencing a “genuinely frightening” medical incident. The actor seemed to be in good spirits at the Regal Union Square event, where he was accompanied by his wife, Asia Lee-Mitchell, and their children. Kel and Asia carried their excited kids down the red carpet, and later, when his longtime onscreen collaborator and Good Burger 2 co-star Kenan Thompson arrived, one of Mitchell’s kids ran straight to Thompson, who gave the child a hug. The joyful interactions with his family and co-star indicated that Kel was indeed doing well after his health scare.
Taking a moment before the screening of the Paramount+ sequel, Mitchell insisted he’s “good,” something he’s reiterated multiple times since the health scare. “God is good. Sometimes things hit you in life and you just have to adjust,” he shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m feeling good. I’m feeling great, and we’re going to keep going.” This positive attitude showcased his resilience and determination to overcome the challenges he faced.
Mitchell had previously posted on social media that he was recovering from a medical incident. He expressed his gratitude for the flood of prayers and positive vibes that surrounded him during a genuinely frightening time. The actor also posted a video to Instagram in which he revealed more about what happened. “I was out shopping when suddenly the whole room started spinning,” he explained. “So, I was like, ‘I must be dehydrated so I need to go get some water, some food.’ When I did that, the whole right side of my arm and my leg was numb, followed by me not being able to swallow. And that’s when I panicked.” His openness about his experience highlighted the seriousness of the incident and added to the outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers.
It was revealed that the medical scare was caused by a bulging disc from a prior injury pressing up against a nerve. Despite this setback, Kel was looking forward to the release of Good Burger 2, which would start streaming on Nov. 22. The film sees Mitchell’s Ed and Thompson’s Dexter reunite at the eponymous fast food restaurant where they try to help Good Burger and its parent company’s plans to grow the brand. The timely theme of the parent company looking to replace Good Burger employees with robots adds an interesting twist to the sequel. Phil Traill directed the film from a script by Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, making it a highly anticipated release for fans of the original 1997 Paramount movie Good Burger, which was based on the comedy series that first ran on Nickelodeon’s All That in the 1990s.
Kel’s recovery and his positive outlook on life were a source of inspiration for many, who were glad to see him in good spirits at the premiere of the long-awaited sequel. His public appearance served as an affirmation that he was back on his feet and ready to continue entertaining audiences with his talent and charisma. The outpouring of support and love from fans and the entertainment industry undoubtedly played a role in Kel’s recovery and ability to continue pursuing his passion for acting.
