Polestar, the Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer, has unveiled a new supercar concept called the Polestar Synergy. This static concept car was developed using winning ideas from a design contest held by the automaker last year. The Polestar Synergy not only showcases the company’s commitment to innovative design but also marks a new partnership with Mattel, which will see some of Polestar’s production models transformed into Hot Wheels and Matchbox toy cars.
The design contest brief called for a Polestar model that focused on performance while also being sustainable. More than 600 entries were received, and from these, 10 designs were shortlisted. Eventually, three winning designs were chosen – two for the exterior and one for the interior. The exterior designs were created by Indian designers Devashish Deshmukh and Swapnil Desai, while the interior design was conceived by Chinese designer Yingxiang Li. These three winning designers collaborated with Polestar’s design team to combine their ideas and create the single Synergy concept.
The Polestar Synergy concept is a single-seat electric vehicle that resembles a futuristic sports prototype race car. It measures nearly 15 feet long and stands at just 3.5 feet tall, giving it an incredibly sleek and aerodynamic profile. While no specific performance figures have been mentioned, the car’s design suggests it is built for speed and agility.
Maximillian Missoni, Polestar’s design chief, emphasized the collaborative nature of the project, stating, “This year, the story is as much about collaboration as performance. I’m proud that the team was able to guide and support the winners in realizing their dream as a full-scale model.” The unveiling of the Polestar Synergy concept took place at Polestar’s store in Munich, Germany. Following this debut, the concept will be showcased at the Hot Wheels Legends Tour in California in October. It will then make appearances at Polestar stores across the United States.
While there are no immediate plans for a production version of the Polestar Synergy, the company is already working on another exciting project. Building on the success of last year’s O2 concept car, Polestar is developing a sleek roadster that will be known as the Polestar 6. The roadster is expected to make its debut around 2026 and promises to deliver thrilling performance in an all-electric package.
Polestar’s collaboration with Mattel, the popular toy manufacturer, further expands its reach and brand recognition. Turning some of Polestar’s production models into Hot Wheels and Matchbox toy cars will introduce the brand and its unique designs to a much broader audience, particularly among young car enthusiasts. This partnership reflects Polestar’s commitment to not only pushing the boundaries of automotive design but also inspiring future generations to embrace sustainable mobility.
Overall, the Polestar Synergy concept represents a significant milestone for Polestar as it showcases the company’s dedication to design excellence and sustainable performance. By encouraging designers from around the world to contribute their ideas and collaborating with industry leaders like Mattel, Polestar continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the electric vehicle industry. The future looks bright for Polestar, with the Polestar 6 roadster on the horizon and an expanding presence in the toy market, ensuring that the brand’s innovative designs will captivate audiences of all ages.
