The first time I had the opportunity to test out the Segway P100S, it felt like I had stepped into the world of Judge Dredd with its Lawmaster Motorcycle. As soon as I started riding, the scooter’s built-in anti-theft alarm went off, complete with flashing lights and a blaring siren. It was certainly an attention-grabbing feature, although I promptly disabled it. However, I can see how this could be a useful deterrent if you ever need to leave the scooter unattended for an extended period.
With a price tag of $2,000, the P100S is one of Segway’s more expensive models. But it certainly offers a range of impressive features to justify the cost. The scooter is fast, boasts excellent range, and includes various bells and whistles. For instance, it comes equipped with turn signals and customizable speed modes which can be adjusted using the companion app. However, it’s important to note that these features come at the expense of added weight, with the P100S weighing a hefty 73 pounds.
Despite its weight, the P100S offers an incredibly smooth ride, making it one of the most enjoyable electric scooters I’ve ever experienced. The 650-watt brushless DC motor provides gradual acceleration, eliminating any sudden jolts and ensuring a seamless transition. This, combined with its 10.5-inch tubeless tires and double-wishbone suspension, results in an impressively smooth roll on flat roads. While you may still feel larger bumps on the road, overall, the scooter offers a comfortable and enjoyable ride, even through bustling city streets.
The app connectivity of the P100S allows for more than just monitoring ride data and enabling or disabling specific features. Instead, it allows riders to personalize their experience to a great extent. For example, I was able to customize the Drive mode to adhere to the speed limits imposed by New York City law, capping it at 15 mph. However, when I wanted to have some fun, the Sport mode allowed me to enjoy the scooter’s maximum speed of 24 mph. There is even an option to enable a setting that lets the scooter reach a blistering 30 mph, although such speeds may not always be practical or safe.
In addition to speed customization, the companion app also offers other convenient options. Users can change the RGB lighting on the scooter, giving it a personalized touch. The app also allows riders to set a charging limit to help preserve the battery lifespan. Furthermore, users can adjust the strength of the regenerative braking, which automatically engages when the throttle is released. While the front and rear disc brakes provide additional stopping power, it is worth mentioning that the default brake settings may feel soft. Adjusting the brake lever tension to personal preference is recommended to ensure optimal performance.
Overall, the Segway P100S offers a premium riding experience with its range of features and smooth performance. While its weight may be a deterrent for some, those who are willing to handle the scooter’s size and heft will undoubtedly appreciate the exceptional ride quality it offers. The customization options provided by the companion app further enhance the user experience, allowing riders to tailor the scooter’s behavior to their preferences. Whether for commutes or recreational rides, the Segway P100S is a high-end electric kick scooter that certainly lives up to its price tag.
