In recent years, there has been a significant emphasis on enhancing entertainment experiences with the latest technology. Las Vegas’ Sphere is a prime example of this trend, and it is anticipated that other recording artists and venues will follow suit. One such venue that is already leading the way is Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium, which features a massive Samsung Infinity Screen.
The Infinity Screen at SoFi Stadium is an impressive oval 70,000 square foot, dual-sided 4K LED display that hangs 122 ft. above the playing field. It stretches the length of the field at 120 yards and weighs a staggering 2.2 million pounds. This massive screen not only serves as a visual spectacle but also houses the speakers for the stadium’s unique sound system. Since its opening in 2020, SoFi Stadium has become the home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, as well as a popular concert venue that has hosted renowned artists such as Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.
JP Pollard, the head of live events, sports, and entertainment for Samsung’s display division, believes that artists are only just beginning to harness the power of the Infinity Screen to augment their shows. He explains, “Some acts are using it for an entirely new aspect of their shows, while others are using it to ensure that everybody in the venue gets a great view of the stage activity.” This versatile use of the screen allows artists to maximize its potential and engage the audience in various innovative ways.
In addition to its entertainment value, SoFi Stadium’s Infinity Screen carries significant importance for the venue itself. As one of the host venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics, including the opening and closing ceremonies, it is essential to showcase the stadium’s capabilities. Additionally, SoFi Stadium is vying to host the 2027 Super Bowl, further accentuating the need to highlight the potential of its Infinity Screen.
Currently, during NFL games, the Infinity Screen can display multiple elements, including live game footage, highlights from other games, scores, fan content, sponsorship, and advertising. However, both SoFi and Samsung are optimistic that there is room for even more creative exploration. Travis Sampson, the Chief Technology Officer at SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park, explains, “Immersive technology is not going away. We want to take this amazing piece of technology and make it an integral part of the user experience. When attendees come to a concert or a sporting event, we want the screen to stand out and create a memorable experience unlike anything else.”
To achieve this goal, SoFi Stadium has an in-house broadcast team and a digital presentation team that works closely with tours and artists. The focus is on understanding the dynamic and aesthetic preferences of each act to curate a unique experience that maximizes the potential of the Infinity Screen. With its 360-degree view and intimate feel, the screen offers endless possibilities for creating captivating and immersive visuals that cater to the desires of the artists and ultimately enhance the overall customer experience.
Looking ahead, SoFi Stadium and Samsung have ambitious plans to introduce more cutting-edge technology over the next two years. Their aim is to create immersive and spectacular experiences that will leave a lasting impression on attendees. Sampson explains, “We want to create experiences that are so immersive and spectacular that people will be able to say, ‘You had to be there.'” By continually pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation, SoFi Stadium is positioning itself as a leader in the industry and setting the stage for the future of entertainment experiences.
