For those who are not attending tonight’s The Marvels premiere in Las Vegas, there’s still a chance to catch a glimpse of Goose – the cat-like alien creature that appeared in Captain Marvel and returns in The Marvels. In an exciting collaboration between software developer Autodesk and Marvel, a larger-than-life version of Goose will be towering over the city’s skyline on the exterior of the recently-opened Sphere. This promotional stunt is meant to generate excitement ahead of The Marvels’ Nov. 10 release in theaters.
Sphere, Las Vegas’ newest entertainment venue, is making headlines with its impressive exterior, featuring a record 580,000-square-foot 16K LED display. The interior is equally impressive, boasting a record 160,000 square-foot 16K LED display. This state-of-the-art technology will be the canvas for bringing Goose to life in all her detailed and tentacled glory.
The Autodesk/Marvel promo was brought to life by the visual effects studio The Mill, utilizing Autodesk Maya 3D software for designing, lighting, rigging, and animating the Goose character. The rendering was done using Autodesk’s Arnold software, known for its ability to produce high-quality, photorealistic images.
Director of Experience at The Mill, Jocelyn Birsch, expressed her excitement about the collaboration, stating that “Collaborating with Autodesk on The Marvels activation has been an amazing experience.” The Mill, known for its innovative visual effects work in the entertainment industry, also created a visual collage using sampled film clips of Elvis Presley, which currently plays during U2’s residency at Sphere.
Since opening in late September, Sphere has already debuted two major shows – the U2 residency U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere and the Darren Aronofsky-helmed movie Postcard from Earth. The venue is quickly establishing itself as a key player in the entertainment industry and a must-visit destination for Las Vegas visitors and residents alike.
The Goose promo will be on display until Nov. 13, just in time for Autodesk University, the software developer’s annual design and content creation customer conference, which will also be held in Las Vegas. This activation is a perfect example of how the entertainment industry is leveraging cutting-edge technology and strategic partnerships to create immersive experiences for audiences.
As Goose looms large over the Las Vegas skyline, it’s clear that The Marvels is not only a highly anticipated film but also a cultural event that extends beyond the silver screen. Fans of the Marvel universe and movie enthusiasts alike will undoubtedly be captivated by this larger-than-life promotional display and the innovative technology behind it. With new entertainment venues like Sphere and groundbreaking collaborations between industry leaders, the future of experiential entertainment looks brighter than ever.
