FX has renewed Welcome to Wrexham for a third season that will premiere in 2024. The news comes ahead of the conclusion of season two on Dec. 13.
The fly-on-the-wall sports documentary series follows the exploits of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and their ownership of soccer club Wrexham AFC, the world’s third-oldest professional soccer club, situated in the northern Welsh working-class town.
The first season tracked the Two Robs takeover of the club and their crash course in soccer fandom (and mostly despair) as Wrexham attempts to gain promotion from the National League. Season two continues the club’s progress as Reynolds and McElhenney sink more money into Wrexham to realize their promotion dreams.
Welcome to Wrexham has been wildly popular for Disney on FX in the U.S. and Disney+ in the rest of the world. Season one is currently nominated for six Emmy Awards, including outstanding unstructured reality program.
The docuseries is executive produced by McElhenney, Reynolds, Josh Drisko, Bryan Rowland, Jeff Luini, Nick Frenkel, George Dewey and Boardwalk Pictures’ Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma and Jordan Wynn. Welcome to Wrexham is produced by More Better Productions, Maximum Effort Productions, 3 Arts Entertainment and Boardwalk Pictures.
